At the train station in yangon

Although having been running our Myanmar Steam Program successfully for several years, we never got tired to explore new highlights for our steam-enthusiastic friends!

This year we repeat part of our recent successful journey to the remote Northern Shan State, which will be one of THE highlights of an exiting 16 days steam tour.

Starting in Yangon with Class ST 2-6-4T No. 754 (steam charter) from Insein Depot to Yangon Central Railway Station, you can enjoy the first runpasts, before leaving in special private carriages to the Mon State.

By YB/YC/YD you will pass through the proper plains of Myanmar, meet the extremely friendly population, do wonderful runpasts and lots of photo stops on the way. You will be among the first steam enthusiasts visiting Kyaiktiyo, where a 5.5. metres high stupa, resting atop a huge gilded boulder, precariously perched high on the edge of the hill, will let your "steam heart" beat faster…

Not mentioning a splendid day excursion on the local train with its steam-powered locomotive, where you travel in a privately chartered first-class car through rice paddy fields, stopping at several villages - ONLY accessible by steam!

The finale will be People's Bawdwin Industry in Namtu, where silver mines aged hundreds of years were discovered by the British at the end of the 19th century.

NEWS:

Despite "rumours" that already "many, many tours" have been to Namtu, we DO know that not more than 5 tours have been carried out within one year. For the coming season not more than 4 tours to Namtu are planned to be allowed - our own 2 steam tour programs already included. This is done in order not to overburden the existing infrastructure in Myanmar and to be able to maintain a good service standard throughout our tour programs.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS ADVENTURE TRAVEL !
"These tours operate to remote areas in a still underdeveloped country, where events are less predictable than is usually the case in, for example, Western Europe or North America. Places visited therefore lack the same quality of emergency health and safety services as usual at destinations in the aforementioned destinations. Travel by rail & road is generally unreliable & less comfortable than you are used to. Hotel & service standards may not approach Western expectations. The unexpected is the normal in these areas, & despite painstaking planning and organisation, ADVENTURE TRAVEL can never be taken for granted like a normal holiday. These itineraries are more a Statement of Intent than a Contractual Obligation." (Quote by TEFS)
